World's Largest Timepiece Trade Fair to Open Next Week

Hong Kong Watch & Clock Design Competition Winners Announced

Hong Kong, Aug 26, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - The 33rd HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair, the largest event of its kind in the world, opens next week from 3-7 September with more than 760 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions taking part. As a prelude to the fair, winners of the 31st Hong Kong Watch & Clock Design Competition were unveiled today.

Time to Shine

The Design Competition attracted around 180 entries under the themes of Time Controls World and Smart World for open and student entries respectively.

The Open Group champion was Leung Ho-him, with a nostalgia-inspired design entitled The Catcher, featuring a watch display that is divided into 24 time zones. By adjusting the watch to the local time zone, the reflector ring turns accordingly, enabling the wearer to read both the local and hometown time on one watch.

Li Ka-sing was 1st Runner-up in the open category with a design that constantly keeps the number "6" at the bottom of the watch face, while Tang Siu-hung was 2nd Runner-up with a design entitled Explorer.

In the Student Group category, Wan Nok-yiu from the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, was crowned champion with a smart watch design entitled Essence, which is described as "a watch which demonstrates your own attitude towards life and reminds you of your own stance".

All the winners and finalists of the Design Competition will be displayed at next week's Watch & Clock Fair organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association Ltd and the Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades and Industries Ltd.
