Last December, production of the redesigned 2014 Toyota Highlander began at the Toyota Indiana plant, eventually resulting in sales of about 90,000 models through July of this year. That is a 16 percent sales increase compared to the same period in 2013, and as a result, Toyota recently announced that it will be hiring 300 more workers and investing $100 million at its facility near Princeton, Ind., to accommodate elevated demand for the SUV.
Toyota's new hires will be made by the summer of 2016 as production of the Highlander expands from its current assembly line at Toyota Indiana's West Plant to the East Plant as well, where up to 30,000 additional units of the SUV will be manufactured annually.
