Apogee Announces Java™ Runtime Environments for Android™

Apogee Software, Inc. is pleased to announce its new breakthrough Android App called JRE4A (Java Runtime Environment for Android), that enables standard Java SE applications to run on Android tablets and cell phones.

Available from Google Play store at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apogee.android.jre4a, JRE4A includes a full featured Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and Java Standard Edition (SE) class library. This means that it supports the standard Java SE APIs and allows direct execution of Java application JAR files, which is not supported on Android devices without JRE4A.

For users of Android devices who want to run desired Java applications or games on them but cannot because there are no Android targeted versions of these applications or games, with JRE4A installed on their device, they can finally run these applications and games on them.

In addition, IT departments and application developers that have invested resources in creating Java SE applications can leverage these applications on the growing number of personal and company provided Android devices equipped with the JRE4A Android App, in addition to running these same Java application on Windows, OSX, Linux, and other Java enabled platforms.

Apogee will soon release a product called JRE4A Developer Edition, which can be used by Java application developers to create custom Android Apps that bundle their Java applications with the JRE4A core runtime. The resulting Android Apps can be branded (launcher icon, title, etc) by their developers and made available via Google Play Store. To the user, these Android Apps will behave like standard Android application, even though under the covers it is a Java application being run by JRE4A core runtime.

For developers of Java applications targeted at multiple devices running various operating systems including Android, Apogee can provide not only the JRE4A for Android devices, but also the Java SE compatible JREs for devices running Linux, Windows CE, Windows Embedded, or VxWorks. These JREs are based on the Java technologies used in JRE4A.
