Douglas Wilson Companies Hires Michael Brekka to Lead Real Estate Development Group

Douglas Wilson Companies (DWC) is pleased to announce it has hired Michael Brekka as Senior Managing Director of Real Estate Development. Under Mr. Brekka’s leadership, DWC’s Real Estate Development platform will pursue principal development opportunities throughout the West Coast and Southwest.

Mr. Brekka has over 25 years' experience in real estate, construction and architecture, and has held leadership roles managing design and development for: The Vail Resorts Development Company, Shea Homes, Intracorp Urban Developers, The Corky McMillin Companies, The Oliver McMillan Company, and numerous architectural firms. As a licensed architect, he has developed and designed projects ranging from complex mixed-use developments in resort communities to residential infill projects. During his career, Mr. Brekka has been directly responsible for the development of over 2,500 residential units and more than 400,000 square feet of commercial and retail space.

Immediately after joining DWC, Brekka assumed leadership of the firm’s Creative Office and Lifestyle Hotel project in Tempe, Arizona – a 280,000-square-foot Class A office building with 20,000 square feet of restaurants and retail, and a 270-key boutique hotel located on the Monti’s Restaurant site at the intersection of Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway. In addition, he will oversee DWC’s Request for Proposals (RFP) submission for the development of mixed-use project on the City-owned 7th and Market block in downtown San Diego’s East Village.

The expansion of DWC’s development platform is part of the firm’s aggressive repositioning, and growth of its traditional real estate services – asset management, principal development, and brokerage services. DWC recently expanded its Public-Private Partnership (P3) Group, hiring Michele Vives as Managing Director in April 2014.
