Dr. Michael Savin, a Specialized Medical Oncologist and Hematologist

Dr. Savin received his M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1969, graduating Cum Laude. He completed a medical internship at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina in 1970, and a medicine residency, also at Duke University, in 1973. He was a staff associate in the Laboratory of Biochemistry at the National Heart and Lung Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, from 1970-1972. In 1975, Dr. Savin completed a fellowship in hematology at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.

Dr. Savin specializes in medical oncology and hematology. He is a board certified doctor in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology. Dr. Savin was formerly a professor of Internal Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He was a clinical professor of Internal Medicine at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He is the stem cell/bone marrow transplantation attending physician and member of the advisory board for The Caring Corner (support for grieving children). He is a medical board member for Gilda's House.

In his almost four decades of experience, he is a member of numerous groups such as the American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association for the Advancement of Science, etc. Dr. Savin received the Golden Flea Award for "excellence in academic teaching and dedication to outstanding patient care" from Department of Medicine House Staff of Eastern Virginia Medical School, 1982; Administrator's Hands and Heart Award from Administrator of Veterans Affairs, 1985; named in D Magazine as one of the "Best Doctors in Dallas" for oncology, 1992 and every year from 2001 to 2009. Furthermore, he was named a "Texas Super Doctor" by Texas Monthly Magazine from 2004 to 2007. Dr. Savin attributes his ongoing success for simply having a passion of what he does.
