Evoqua Experts to Present Successful BioMag® and CoMag® Magnetite Ballasted System Designs and Implementations at WEFTEC

Water treatment customers, consulting engineers and Evoqua Water Technologies experts will present case studies and design presentations about the efficacy of BioMag® and CoMag® magnetite ballasted systems at the Water Environment Federation’s Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC) Sept. 29-Oct. 1 in New Orleans.

In addition to magnetite ballasted solution case studies from Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada, Evoqua experts will present a paper on the design considerations including preliminary treatment, biological reactors, secondary clarifiers, solids wasting and magnetite recovery for magnetite ballasted activated sludge facilities.

Eight pilots using Evoqua’s magnetite ballasted-based solutions have been completed, two full-scale municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are operational and more than a dozen are currently in design or construction ranging in size from 0.6-8.7 mgd.

The BioMag and CoMag systems from Evoqua infuse magnetite into conventional biological and chemical floc making it heavier and dramatically improving settling. The BioMag system is applied to activated sludge systems. It increases capacity up to 300 percent without new tankage, provides control over secondary sludge blanket depth and enables nutrient removal below 3 mg/L TN and 0.2 mg/L TP. The CoMag System is ideal for tertiary treatment, CSO / storm water management and drinking water. It delivers TP < 0.05 mg/l, TSS < 2.0 mg/l, and turbidity, 1 NTU. Both systems easily integrate with existing or planned facilities and can lower costs.

Evoqua experts also will present a case study how an inline analyzer helped reduce sulfide peaks to improve odor control at a County of Santa Cruz, Calif. WWTP.

“Customers are clearly seeing the benefits of Evoqua magnetite ballasted processes and other technologies,” said Evoqua President, Global Municipal Division, Malcolm Kinnaird. “We look forward to sharing our customers’ successes with the municipal water community at WEFTEC.”

“Design Considerations for Magnetite Ballasted Activated Sludge Facilities,” a “Full-Scale Demonstration of a BioMag Treatment System at the Kemptville WPCP in Ontario, Canada,” and “Magnetite Ballasted Technology to Meet Ultra-Low Phosphorus Limits in Wisconsin: a Pilot Study at the Fond du Lac WPCP” will be presented Tues. Sept. 30. “Real Time Wastewater Monitoring of a Liquid Phase Odor Control Program for Improved Program Efficiency” will be presented Mon. Sept. 29.

For a complete schedule of Evoqua presentations and more about Wallace & Tiernan®, MEMCOR®, Envirex®, Jet Tech, Davco™, RJ Environmental, JWI, Westates® and other Evoqua brands and technologies which will be exhibited, visit Evoqua at WEFTEC online or in-person at booth 5129 in the New Orleans Morial Convention Center.
