SCRA Celebrates Opening of New Facility

SCRA today held the official dedication and ribbon cutting ceremonies for its “Applied Technologies Center” located at Nexton in Summerville, S.C. Construction began on the 78,000 square foot facility, which houses SCRA’s Charleston-area operations, last October.

The longest-serving and newest SCRA associates held the ribbon for the ceremony, signifying SCRA’s history and showcasing SCRA’s future. Working with Choate Construction as the general contractor and LS3P Associates, Ltd. as the architect for the new facility, SCRA has fashioned not only a new building, but one that enables a cultural change for the company. SCRA will occupy two floors of the facility and will lease space on the third floor.

"We are delighted to be in our new facility," said SCRA CEO Bill Mahoney. "We have worked to make this a space that will encourage creativity and collaboration for our associates and clients. We thank the many people that helped make this vision a reality for SCRA."

Speaking at the dedication were the Honorable William Collins, Mayor of Summerville; Kenneth Seeger of MWV Community Development and Land Management Group and the Honorable Richard Riley, former U.S. Secretary of Education and Governor of South Carolina when SCRA was established in 1983.

“SCRA was established over 30 years ago to build the Knowledge Economy in South Carolina,” said Riley. “It is with great pleasure that we can celebrate the contributions this organization has made to our state with over 15,000 jobs created, 300 technology-based companies and $16.6 billion in economic impact to our economy. I am delighted to be here as SCRA marks a new milestone, and I look forward to many future contributions and successes.”

Nexton is South Carolina’s first gigabit community, connected to the world through leading-edge technology. Amenities are a walk or bike ride away and businesses, shops, homes, restaurants and schools are connected by trails and parks.
