The March of Dimes announced the 14th Annual Heroines of Washington® award recipients at a black-tie gala on November 18, 2014. The event honored the significant contributions of women in the D.C. region who exemplify leadership in volunteer community service. Fashion designer, entrepreneur and philanthropist Kay Unger served as the emcee. Formerly known as Heroines in Technology, this year’s nominations were open to women in more industries and not solely those working in technology.

  • Technology Heroine Award sponsored by MorganFranklin Consulting: Mimi Yeh, Accenture Federal Services
  • Rising Heroine Award: Angel Rich, The Wealth Factory

The event successfully raised more than $250,000 to support local March of Dimes programs including research, community services, education and advocacy to reduce the occurrence of birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Since 2001, Heroines of Washington (formerly Heroines in Technology) has honored 87 “Heroines” and has raised over $2.2 million to support March of Dimes programs including research, community services, education and advocacy to improve the health of babies.
