Artist, Kenny Irwin’s official opening of “ROBOLIGHTS” the fantastical winter-wonderland-meets-sci-fi art installation. Towering, vividly painted sculptures made almost entirely of recycled materials and adorned in Christmas lights have become a popular holiday sight at this eclectic, outdoor museum on the Irwin family's property.
This year's holiday display, which includes hundreds of sculptures created by artist Kenny Irwin Jr. will have dozens of never-seen-before artworks."It's going to be 50 times better than any display that I've done before," Irwin said. "I've been working on this for the last two years, 10 to 12 hours a day." Irwin's new creations include Candy Cane Palace, Pathan Gingerbread Man (a Pakistani version of the traditional gingerbread figure), Alien Gingerbread Lady, Tower of Presents, Peppermint Block Bot, Peppermint Skull Store, Peppermint Climbing Tower of Robots (with an encapsulated living palm tree), Dovemaster and Clown Bot. Irwin's "Have Yourself a Happy Little Robatmas" installation - which has been on view for the past year at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore - is another addition to this year's show. The massive piece features a hot pink flying saucer. The ROBOlights will run November 27, 2014 through January 6, 2015 hours will be 4pm - 9pm daily. display debuted in 1986, when the artist was just 12, but stopped in 2008 after a neighbor complained. To get back up and running in 2012, Irwin reduced the hours that guests could visit and hired security guards. Since the debut of ROBOLIGHTS there has been over 20,000 people that have come through.
