Resonator has been a rising star on the Australian death metal scene, originally kicking off with its EP “Sporadic”, which spawned chart toppers like title track “Sporadic” and “North of Nashkel” on the internet. This major group has come back with its founding member David Laverty as a musical project and is currently in the midst of making its first album, Surgery.
This concept album is a death metal opera spread over a whopping 18 tracks, and further more, David Laverty and his personal crew of artists/managers/musicians are kicking it up a notch by making a Graphic novel for Surgery. As well as making an off shoot comic book with matching character personas but based in a more modern 20th century.
Before when Resonator was doing shows, Resonator made an enormous impression on death metal fans around the globe. After achieving local feats such as interviews for local radio and the Metal Matt Show, playing alongside great Australian bands including Hemina, Katabasis, Anno Domini and Red Bee, Resonator quickly reached a major level of prominence as a international touring band.
“Surgery” is the brainchild of David Laverty, based in a 17th century/fantasy era, this layered and deep story is designed to really put you in the moment and perspective of life in its dark age. And entertain you with an array of jazz and classical influenced heavy metal. The Novel explores the themes more deeply and elaborates the storyline that is Surgery.
The narrative of the album revolves around Count Jedrek Babbarrossa, the ruler of a 17th century kingdom called ‘Unsere Lion tonsfall’. After horrific events befall his wife and children, he sacrifices everything to save them, only to fall into Dissociative Identity Disorder as he becomes a prophet, by mysterious powers, he becomes the foretold warlord “The World Eater”. Whom will unleash an undefeatable army in a 100 year crusade to swallow the world in darkness.
This is a project of epic scope which requires support from the public to attain its full promise. David has sponsored a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise $16,000 AUD. In return for supporting this project, backers may receive perks like digital albums, CDs, T-shirts, tablature for guitar or bass, posters, personalized phone messages, graphic novels, DVD’s, meeting with David Laverty, concert tickets, or a meal prepared by David Laverty acting as “Jedrek Barbarossa”.
