With Another Global Financial Collapse Possible, NYSSA Urges Vigilance

The New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA) will revisit the Global Financial Crisis and confront the prospect of another worldwide economic crash with its 2014 Systemic Risk Conference, Wednesday, December 3.

The half-day event—a collaboration between NYSSA and CFA Institute—will gather together thought leaders from Wall Street, academia, and government in a bid to answer the question, “What Are the Odds of Financial Collapse?”

“The GFC was the most serious threat to the market since the Great Depression, and was a textbook study in systemic risk, not to mention a definitive lesson on moral hazard,” explained Robert Andriano, chair of the Market Integrity Committee at NYSSA.

Despite the Troubled Asset Relief Program and subsequent financial stability, the danger of systemic risk has not abated entirely, Andriano pointed out, prompting a need for increased dialogue among finance professionals and the public sector.

The conference will feature presentations by BlackRock Vice Chair Barbara Novick, Emily Eisenlohr, author of Fairy Tale Capitalism, Lawrence Goodman of the Center for Financial Stability, The Nature of Value author Nick Gogerty, CFA Institute policy expert Jim Allen and economist Richard Bookstaber.

The Systemic Risk Conference will take place from 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the NYSSA Conference Center, located on the 10th floor of 1540 Broadway, New York, N.Y. To register to attend, please visit NYSSA.org.
