BandPage Finds Gold in the Hills of Streaming Music Services

BandPage, the central profile that over 500,000 musicians use to engage and sell to hundreds of millions of fans, announced today that it is now distributing more than 3,000,000 items for sale to fans across services including Spotify, Shazam, Rhapsody, Lyricfind and more. While the debate around streaming royalties continues, early data from BandPage suggests that there is a massive opportunity to increase revenue for musicians across the major music services by displaying offers to fans while they are streaming music or engaging with artists across major music platforms. BandPage released figures showing that it has the potential to deliver over one billion impressions each month across its partner network. Musicians receive more than 10 times the average daily impressions through the BandPage network compared to their own websites, due to the massive scale and daily traffic on these music services. The offers distributed through the BandPage network are seeing average click-through rates that are 5 times higher than typical online channels and conversion rates up to 3 times higher than online retailer averages. The company stated that artists have made upwards of $1,000 per day through their network of partners, indicating that there is significant revenue to be made by musicians on these services in addition to streaming royalties.

“While the conversation today is often focused on streaming music revenues,” said J Sider, founder and CEO of BandPage, “monetizing the engagement around the stream represents a massive new revenue opportunity for our industry and we are starting to see the data to prove it.”

The items musicians put up for sale on BandPage include pre-sale offers, VIP meet and greets, online concerts, t-shirts, vinyl, crowdfunding campaigns and more. They come from musicians ranging from emerging artists to some of the largest musicians in the world including Ed Sheeran, Toby Keith, Nicki Minaj, Miranda Lambert and thousands more.

“We pride ourselves on creating unique and highly desirable items for fans but it hasn’t always been easy for us to get these offers in front of the fans enjoying music on online platforms,” said Brad Auerbach, EVP of Epic Rights, a pioneer in the worldwide music artist merchandising and licensing industry. “These are the fans who are the most likely to buy. We are incredibly excited to partner with BandPage to get our artists’ offers to their fans and grow revenues through the BandPage Platform. For the first time ever our items will be for sale in front of hundreds of millions of fans across the major streaming services and beyond. It’s a ‘win-win’ for everyone involved.”

Additionally, with the discontinuation of the ArtistLink (formerly Topspin) integration with Spotify, BandPage has become the only way for musicians to display offers on Spotify. Whether it be merchandise, VIP meet and greets, in person experiences, online experiences, crowdfunding offers or more, it is necessary for musicians to add it to their BandPage Profile in order for it to be displayed to their fans on Spotify.

“As instant access to music is becoming more and more compelling to the fan, that access brings opportunities to artists that didn’t exist before,” said Bruce Flohr, executive at Red Light Management. “BandPage helps make that access not only a better experience for the consumer but also allows the artist to have a direct connection to their fans and increase revenue.”

BandPage has become the central profile for most musicians around the world. It is the only way for musicians to directly control the bios, photos, tour dates and store offers their fans see on Spotify, Google, YouTube, Shazam, iHeartRadio, VEVO, Rdio, Soundcloud, Live Nation, Xbox Music, LyricFind, Rhapsody, their website, Facebook profiles and more. Offers distributed by BandPage have the opportunity to tap into over 150 million active music fans each month.

“It’s really exciting to be partners with these great music platforms,” said J Sider. “They care and are working hard with us to generate meaningful revenue for musicians through our integrations. We are solely focused on that. That’s our job. We are starting to see statistically significant data which shows that there is a massive revenue opportunity for musicians.”
