American Water Names Karla Teasley Vice President of Customer Service and Bruce Hauk President of Illinois American Water

American Water Works Company, Inc. (NYSE: AWK), the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced that its current president of Illinois American Water, Karla Teasley, will be named vice president of Customer Service at American Water, effective Jan. 1, 2015.

Teasley, who has served as president of Illinois American Water since 2007, will now lead the company’s integrated customer service center with locations in Alton, Ill., and Pensacola, Fla. The center serves American Water’s regulated water and wastewater utilities in 16 states by providing call handling, billing and collections activities, as well as assistance and management of projects of both local and company-wide scope.

With Teasley’s promotion, American Water has named Bruce Hauk its new president of Illinois American Water, also effective Jan. 1, 2015.

“We are pleased by both of these announcements today,” said Walter Lynch, president and chief operating officer of American Water’s Regulated Operations. “Karla will bring her more than 30 years of utility experience to our Customer Service operations and Bruce brings strong leadership and communication skills to his new role, as well as broad operations and business experience. All of American Water’s customers will be served well by both Karla and Bruce.”

Prior to joining American Water as president of its Illinois operations, Teasley was the vice president of Louisville Water Co. in Kentucky, where she was responsible for all customer contact functions, as well as business development, capital budget and infrastructure planning, and pipeline design and construction. In addition, Teasley served as vice president and general counsel of Florida Water Services (a.k.a. Southern States Utilities, Inc.), providing in-house legal services supporting regulatory affairs and business development activities.

Teasley earned her law degree from University of Minnesota Law School and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire.

Bruce Hauk currently serves as the director of Financial Analysis and Decision Support for American Water. Before his current role, Hauk served as vice president of Operations for Indiana American Water, where he oversaw all operations within Indiana American Water’s service districts. His responsibilities included leading operations at all of Indiana American Water’s treatment and distribution facilities, as well as the company’s employees in Indiana.

Hauk previously worked for Indiana American Water from 1996 to 2002 as a supervisor at the Johnson County Operations and as a superintendent for the Noblesville district. He also served as director of public works, town manager and deputy mayor/chief administrative officer for the City of Westfield, Ind.

Hauk holds a Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University and a Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis School of Public and Environmental Affairs. He also earned a dual Bachelor of Science degree in the disciplines of chemistry and life sciences from Indiana State University.
