Sallie Mae Announces $20,000 Contest to Reward Families Who Plan for College

Sallie Mae, the nation’s leading saving, planning and paying for college company, today announced a new contest that will reward families who actively take steps to make a financial plan for college. The Sallie Mae $20,000 Giveaway: “Good Things Come to Those Who Plan” will reward three families: one grand prize winner will win $10,000 for college and two winners will win $5,000.

Families may enter the contest via SallieMae.com/PaystoPlan or the company’s Facebook page. Families simply register for any of the free Sallie Mae plan for college tools, including the College Planning Calculator or Scholarship Search by Sallie Mae. After registering, they complete an online entry form and submit up to 100 words about why they are excited to plan for college.

“Our annual study ‘How America Pays for College’ found that fewer than four in ten families have a plan to pay for college,” said Martha Holler, senior vice president, Sallie Mae. “Our hope is this contest will spur conversations about planning for college and provide some additional motivation to help change this stubborn statistic. We believe planning pays off, and our free tools can help families get started.”

The “Good Things Come to Those Who Plan” Giveaway will run for six weeks. Entries will be evaluated based on creativity and originality, and winners will be notified in February. Those who wish to follow the contest on social media can do so using the hashtag #PaystoPlan.
