On the one-year anniversary of the death of Illinois Tollway worker Vincenzo Petrella, who was killed by Renato Velasquez in a car crash that also severely injured Illinois State Police Trooper Doug Balder, the Balder family will hold a press conference.
Doug and his wife Kimberli Balder are advocates for the filing of reckless homicide charges against Velasquez. No such charges have been filed.
Joining the Balders will be Elizabeth Sauter, widow of Illinois State Police Trooper James Sauter. The Sauter family is requesting reckless homicide charges in Cook County for James’ death, which resulted from a semi-truck crash.
At the event, Vincenzo Petrella’s and James Sauter’s memory will be honored, and Doug Balder will provide an update on his continued recovery.
