NYSSA Mourns the Death of Founding Member Irving Kahn

The New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA) is saddened by the passing of Irving Kahn, a pioneering investor and original member of NYSSA. He was 109.

Early in his Wall Street career, Kahn apprenticed himself to Benjamin Graham, a Columbia Business School lecturer and financier. By 1937, Kahn and Graham had created NYSSA as a professional forum for security analysis and investment research.

The margin of safety principal taught by Graham led Kahn to predict the Stock Market Crash of 1929. Kahn was a maiden CFA® charterholder and contributed to the Financial Analysts Journal. A lifetime member of NYSSA, he was a frequent guest speaker at the Society.

“We treasured Irving Kahn for his formidable intellect, humble spirit and his sheer historical significance as our co-founder,” said Karen Sterling, President and Chief Executive Officer of NYSSA. “He was truly one of our own and we grieve his loss.”

In recognition of his contribution to NYSSA and celebrated career, the NYSSA Irving Kahn Lifetime Achievement Award is given annually in his honor.
