Americans are foodies again: Restaurant spending strongest since 2006

An improved economy is giving Americans the biggest appetite for going out to eat in eight years. Spending at fast-food chains and full-scale restaurants alike have climbed faster in the past five months than any time since the end of 2006 — a year before the Great Recession struck.
