On the upside
Abiomed (Nasdaq: ABMD) impressed with sharply higher fourth quarter earnings and revenue that beat analyst expectations and lifted its 2016 revenue guidance.
Bloomberg reported that Quebec may purchase a rail line and port facilities that support the Bloomfield Lake mining site owned by Cliffs Natural Resources (NYSE: CLF) .
EarthLink (Nasdaq: ELNK) narrowed first quarter losses more than expected.
On the downside
Second quarter earning slipped for Kulicke & Soffa (Nasdaq: KLIC) to fall short of expectations and the company forecast current quarter revenue below estimates.
PTC Therapeutics (Nasdaq: PTCT) widened first quarter losses as revenue fell prompting a downgrade.
NeoStem (Nasdaq: NBS) widened losses for the first quarter on lower revenue.
In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of more than 7 to 2 on the NYSE and by nearly 7 to 2 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 plunged 25 points to 2089. Bitcoin slipped $2 to $235.
