Teen On A Mission To Inspire Parents

By: PRLog
PRLog - May 6, 2015 - SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Surreal opportunities don't happen by accident. Author Naeem K. Turner-Bandele, began to reflect on his seventeen years on the planet. Having a day off from the rigorous soccer training in a Brazilian soccer academy, Naeem reflected on how extraordinary his life had been. In Naeem’s words, “LIFE HAS BEEN GREAT”.

More than merely realizing his life was great, Naeem turned his attention to “WHY”. There was no lengthy deliberation. Naeem knew that his life had been “great” because of his parents. “I realized especially during my time abroad that my childhood was different. I gained a greater appreciation for my unbelievable experiences and amazing opportunities. Thanks to my parents, I lived abroad, valued all living beings, and excelled academically and athletically.”

Now back in the U.S., Naeem is convinced more than ever that his childhood was uncommon and the relationship with his parents is unique. “My parents have always been actively engaged in my life. No matter what, my parents encourage and inspire me to leave the world better than it was when I arrived.”

Naeem wrote “What Are We Gonna Do Today?” believing every child should experience an affirming and supportive parent-child relationship. Naeem wants all children to have a great childhood. For Naeem “a great childhood begins and ends with actively engaged parents”.

What Are We Gonna Do Today?”, is a beautifully illustrated activity guide to help parents remain actively engaged with their children year round. “What Are We Gonna Do Today?” chronicles two bored children inquiring of their parents “what are we gonna do today?”. “'What Are We Gonna Do Today?' highlights things I did with my parents that not only chased away my boredom but laid an exceptional foundation for how to approach life. I don’t even want to think what my life would be like or what I might be doing if my parents hadn’t been actively engaged.”

Naeem knows precisely what he is going to do today and tomorrow. Naeem’s life mission statement includes using technology to create products and services that enhance the human condition especially for those who have been historically and geographically disenfranchised and underserved. For now, Naeem hopes that “What Are We Gonna Do Today?” encourages at least one parent to read with and be actively engaged in their child’s life.

Naeem K. Turner-Bandele is a freshman Computer Science and Engineering major at Santa Clara University (SCU). The Indianapolis, Indiana resident prides himself on being a Renaissance man. He is fluent in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. He freelances as a web designer/developer. The SCU student is also the Technology Coordinator for the Residential Learning Communities Association and Vice President for SCU Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers. Turner-Bandele is a 2015 Code 2040 Fellow.
