National Physical Fitness Month Observed Nationwide in May

United States - May 23, 2015 /MM-CRSPD/

(Cristina White Phelan, Correspondent News)--National Physical Fitness and Sports Month is a great time to spread the word about the benefits of getting active.

A few benefits of physical activity:

Children and adolescents – Physical activity can improve muscular fitness and bone and heart health.
Adults – Physical activity can lower risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer.
Older adults – Physical activity can lower the risk of falls and improve cognitive functioning (like learning and judgment skills).

Communities, health professionals, and families can work together to create opportunities for everyone to get more physical activity. Along with a healthy diet, and overall lifestyle changes, general health is helped by just moving the body regularly.

Hearing that advice and doing it are two different things, though. Sometimes, intervention is necessary to get out of a sedentary lifestyle.

Darlene Karpaski, MA, NBCCH, CEO of Wellness Marketing Warriors knows those stuck in the quicksand of failing health - - she's been there. The purpose of Wellness Marketing Warriors is assisting other wellness coaches in reaching those that are stuck, unable to move, just like she was years ago.

Wellness coaches know the benefits of living healthy. They're often highly trained experts in psychology, fitness, health, and complementary interventions. It's conveying the urgency and importance of getting out of an unhealthy lifestyle to prospective clients that they struggle with. Karpaski coaches the coaches, giving them tools and marketing strategies to help them help others.

There are many categories of those needing health intervention: desk workers, those that have struggled with obesity or health issues for most of their lives, and those with chronic illnesses, just to name a few. "You would be mistaken if you think it’s a matter of want or desire. They all desire the outcome, but they often struggle with 'no motivation to do anything',” says Karpaski. "After struggling long-term, they are very hesitant to disturb what little balance they’ve established in their lives. Ask me how I know.

"I desperately wanted help with my issues, but worried that there would be negative consequences or that I wouldn’t be able to do all that was required of me. It takes a ton of energy to keep going when you’ve been coping with chronic illness," Karpaski says. Reaching those that need help the most is the tricky part for health professionals.

Most wellness professionals focus on the traditional marketing models: blogs, social media, and a published book or health product. But that approach is not the approach Karpaski says is effective. She has dedicated Wellness Marketing Warriors to reaching those struggling to become more healthy, but are unsure of how to proceed. Wellness Marketing Warriors has developed a system to assist coaches in assisting others. The end goal is to bring more people to healthy lifestyle choices for life.

People make lifestyle changes much faster and results are longer lasting when they have a companion to kick-start their journey. Webinar events and courses done correctly motivate and create relationships that reduce the sense of isolation they've been living with. While some people will read a book and make changes, most don’t have the resilience to “do one more thing” on their own.

Karpaski says it’s all about connection, community and companionship to help others get through the challenging transition points on the way to a better life.

There is help available for those looking for intervention and assistance in getting healthy. Taking advantage of National Physical Fitness Month, including a wellness coach, if needed, to start a new way of life.
