American Custom Contractors Receives GAF’s Prestigious 2014 President’s Club Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Rockville, MD – May 1, 2015: American Custom Contractors

American Custom Contractors of Rockville, Maryland, has received GAF’s most prestigious contractor award: The GAF President’s Club Award. This highly coveted award recognizes American Custom Contractors as one of the “elite of the elite” residential roofing contractors in the United States.

GAF is North America’s largest roofing manufacturer, and only GAF Master Elite(R) Contractors can compete for its President’s Club Award. To qualify for this award, a contractor must demonstrate an exceptional level of excellence in their business, especially in the areas of Installation Excellence, Consumer Protection, and Installer Training.

American Custom Contractors has been a GAF Master Elite(R) Contractor since 2008. To become a Master Elite(R) Contractor–a status that less than 2% of roofing contractors nationwide have achieved–a candidate must demonstrate proper licensing and adequate insurance, have a proven reputation and show commitment to ongoing professional training.

Even when competing for a bid against other award-winning roofers, American Custom Contractors comes out on top. Demetri Giakoumatos, chief executive officer, relates this anecdote: “On a recent sale, a husband and wife were very skeptical. They brought in three or four contractors, all of whom had won industry awards. When the customers talked to us, we figured out what they needed pretty much immediately. Ultimately, we were the contractor chosen.”

“We don’t use high-pressure sales tactics,” Giakoumatos continues. “We’re very consultative–that made a big difference for those customers and prompted them to choose to move forward with us. We use a two-step process from the Certified Contractors Network, where we go in and first do a thorough measure call, in which we analyze their needs. We don’t just throw numbers on the table; we actually diagnose the problem and then make recommendations. The next step is to meet with the customer a second time to go over everything in detail.”

Recognition of quality by customers accompanies a long service history. “We’re a 43-year-old company in an industry where most companies have an average life of five to 10 years. That’s something we’re proud of. This is a second-generation company, started by my parents. And people are still hiring us because they know we are industry experts.”

Although the company started four decades ago, it does not hesitate to incorporate new technologies into its work processes. “Every business needs to set goals,” explains Giakoumatos, “and our goal is to really ramp up our presence on social media. If we can get 25% of our new leads from social media, and then close on half of those leads–I’d be happy with that.”

American Custom Contractors’ social presence extends beyond the Internet. The company works with Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity and participates in GAF’s Roofs for Troops promotion, which offers rebates on roofing systems to active-duty military personnel, veterans, and retirees.

In 2015, American Custom Contractors has no intention of slowing down. “We’re continuing to grow our commercial division,” says Giakoumatos. “And we’ve already implemented solar. We’re going to continue to provide the best value. People will shop for 10 different reasons, but they always come back to us for the value. Any contractor can design a sales process–but our way, figuring out the customer’s needs, installing per the manufacturer’s specs, all the way to the back end–that’s our way to do things. It’s the right way. And in my opinion, it’s the only way.”
