Injectable treatment reduces fat below the chin without surgery

The FDA approved Kybella earlier this year to treat excess fat below the jaw line. Nearly 80 percent of patients in clinical trials were satisfied with their appearance after receiving Kybella injections, according to materials released by manufacturer Kythera Biopharmaceuticals. Patients reported improved self-esteem and reduced embarrassment about the appearance of their face and chin.

Dr. Hartog said that Kybella is "ideally suited" for both women and men who want to make subtle improvements to the contour of their face, especially those in a professional setting.

"In the workplace, there is often pressure to look your best, but many professionals are concerned about the drastic change surgery may have," he said. "Kybella is often preferable for these patients because it can be customized to make discreet changes to the shape of the jaw line and the profile of the chin and face."
