In anticipation of the new Star Wars movie in December 2015, Y Studios celebrates its love for Design and Star Wars with this unique project inspired by the iconic Star Wars lightsaber and some of Y Studios’ design heroes – Zaha Hadid, Charles and Ray Eames, Issey Miyake, Edith Heath and Dieter Rams. These influential thought leaders are chosen because their portfolio of work has long-lasting significance and relevance on today’s design culture – the same groundbreaking spirit and timeless quality shared by the enduring appeal of Star Wars across generations, geography and gender.
“DESIGN X SABER is our passion project,” said Wai-Loong Lim, Founder and CEO of Y Studios. “It was an opportunity for our team to exercise their creative muscles and use our imaginations to fuel what we do as designers.”
DESIGN X SABER envisions what a saber would look like if Y Studios and its design heroes designed them. The project will be presented in a series of six short episodes featuring one designer per day. It will culminate with a short documentary that describes the concept and design process behind the project. Beginning with Episode One on November 9, 2015, follow the series with the episode guide on www.designxsaber.com. All sabers featured in this project are designed by Y Studios and inspired by its design heroes. This is Y Studios’ homage to these inspirational exemplars.
