Award Winning Aurora Levins Morales Launches Indiegogo to Fund New Poetic Eco-Journalism

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Jan. 5, 2016 - PRLog -- Starting in early 2016, Aurora Levins Morales, internationally acclaimed writer and activist, will launch her project "Letters from Earth". She will be traveling around the country in her tiny house on wheels, specially designed to be non-toxic, accessible and semi-sustainable, visiting the individuals, front line communities, and wild habitats most affected by our extract-and-consume economy, and writing and recording her most powerful poetic prose to tell their stories and her own.

Aurora would love to have you with her on this journey, and has launched a campaign on Indiegogo where she explains, "I feel called to respond to our ecological crisis by doing what I do best: bringing the tools of activist art to the task of changing the world. To tell stories that bridge the gap between body and landscape, the personal and the global, and inspire people to take action on behalf of those they love and the planet that is our home."

"Letters from Earth" has already attracted 49 backers and $2080 of donations in the first few days of the campaign and has been the number one trending environmental project.

She sat down recently with writer, bodyworker and organizer Susan Raffo to share more about "Letters from Earth". "The piece of work that I have chosen to take on is to write about the causes and effects of environmental injustice from my particular disabled body. To use the story of my struggle to live well as a door into the planetary struggle for health and well-being. I have built a safe nontoxic mobile home that cares for my body, shelters me from pollution and allows me to do my work again. It also, in and of itself, tells a story both about the seriousness of our collective situation and the power of human creativity. It allows me to go into people’s communities and bring my whole self, to have deeply personal conversations about big, sometimes overwhelming, global problems and share them through poetry and poetic prose that have the ability to move people much more than mere information. The work I do as an artist feeds other kinds of organizing and is fed by them in turn. That’s my particular work."
