Manatt’s Linda Goldstein Inducted into the Direct Response Hall of Fame

Linda Goldstein, chair of the Advertising, Marketing and Media practice at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, has been named to the 2016 class of the Direct Response Hall of Fame.

Presented by Response magazine, the DR Hall of Fame recognizes visionaries who have helped turn direct response marketing into a $350 billion annual business. The honorees will be recognized during the Response Expo taking place in San Diego, California, on April 28, 2016.

“It comes as no surprise that Linda would be chosen to join this renowned group of industry leaders,” said William T. Quicksilver, Manatt’s CEO and Managing Partner. “Linda has a well-earned reputation as one of the leading advertising lawyers in the country. Her breadth of experience and impact on the field of direct response marketing is truly remarkable. We are proud to join Response magazine and its advisory board in celebrating Linda’s many accomplishments.”

With decades of experience in the direct response industry, Goldstein regularly provides counsel to direct-to-consumer businesses on minimizing legal risks associated with digital marketing and online retailing. She also represents clients in investigative and enforcement proceedings brought by the Federal Trade Commission, the National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus and state attorneys general.

Goldstein is a former chair of the board of directors of the Electronic Retailing Association and played a key role in the development of the organization’s Electronic Retailing Self-Regulation Program, a self-regulatory mechanism for resolving inquiries regarding the truthfulness and accuracy of direct response advertising claims. Now in place for more than a decade, the ERSP has been successful in providing a quick and effective forum for resolving instances of false or unsubstantiated claims in direct response advertisements, independent of federal regulation. Goldstein has also been a member of the Direct Response Marketing Alliance since its inception, and serves as chair of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Brand Activation Association.

Nominees for the DR Hall of Fame are submitted by Response magazine’s advisory board, previous Hall of Fame inductees and Response’s executive leadership. Industry leaders inducted into earlier classes of the DR Hall of Fame include Suzanne Somers, actress and creator of several successful DR products; Billy Mays, promoter for numerous hit TV products including OxiClean; Sy Sperling, founder and host of the Hair Club for Men show and products; and Richard Simmons, fitness personality and creator of several weight-loss programs.
