The Gates Vascular Institute of Kaleida Health, in partnership with the University at Buffalo Neurosurgery Institute announced today the acquisition of Synaptive Medical’s BrightMatterTM Technology. This system fuses state of the art imaging, information and visualization of critical structures in the brain to support clinical decisions.

Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability and costs the US healthcare system an estimated $34 billion per year. Intervention can hinge on having the right information at the right time. The Gates Vascular Institute of Kaleida Health and their multi-disciplinary team of stroke care specialists is world renowned for their diagnosis and treatment with innovative technologies and research. Investing in top talent and resources has proven to make an impact to the healthcare system and the lives of patients.

Dr. Elad Levy and Dr. Adnan Siddiqui played a key role in bringing Synaptive Medical’s BrightMatter technology to Buffalo. Their commitment to defining neurosurgical innovation and techniques that lead to demonstrated quality outcomes and increased cost effective solutions has been a part of the healthcare system in Buffalo for over 100 years. In addition to their innovative insight, this area was also integral to defining neurosurgery as a distinct medical specialty. The Gates Vascular Institute of Kaleida Health was recently recognized by Blue Cross Blue Shield as a center of excellence for providing optimal care at an average of 20% lower costs than the rest of the country.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to work with customers that provide insight into helping us find a better way," said Cameron Piron, President of Synaptive Medical. “Our company was founded on addressing the unmet needs of the surgeons with the right information at the right time and at the right scale, without innovative insight from our customers on what’s needed we can’t truly define the solution to the problem.”

“With the help of University at Buffalo Neurosurgery and Kaleida Health, we continue to provide exceptional innovative care to help our patients in western New York,” said Dr. Elad Levy, Chairman of Neurological Surgery and Co-Director of the Kaleida Health Stroke Center. “We are among the first to utilize this technology, continuing our commitment to provide best in class care to those patients who we have the privilege to care for.” Kaleida Health treats more stroke patients than any other hospital in the state of New York.

Dr, Adnan Siddiqui is the Director of the Neurosurgical Stroke Service for Kaleida Health and the Medical Director for the Jacobs Institute. “This revolutionary technology will allow us to continue to advance minimally invasive approaches to brain and spine to preserve normal tissues and further improve patient outcomes,” said Dr. Siddiqui. Trained in all general neurosurgical procedures, including brain tumor, spine and peripheral nerve surgery, his clinical focus has been in vascular diseases. Dr. Siddiqui is internationally recognized as a leader in Neuroendovascular intervention and research in comprehensive management of cerebrovascular conditions

“There’s a real gap in imaging and surgical intervention with complex diseases such as brain tumors and stroke,” said Cameron Piron. “The status quo has been accepted as standard of care, collaborating with places like Kaleida Health is how we can not only find a better solution, but one that is more efficient and minimizes costs to the patient.”
