Wearables Pioneer for Driver Safety Racing Ahead

PITTSBURGH - June 24, 2016 - PRLog -- Maven Machines, a pioneer in mobile technology for truck driver safety, announced they moved from their 18 month home and inception point at AlphaLab Gear, a nationally ranked hardware accelerator program sponsored by Innovation Works, to a new expanded location at 4117 Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield.

The company's success with mobile driver safety and real-time fatigue monitoring has led to a rapid increase in employees and clients.  "We thrived at AlphaLab Gear," said Avishai Geller, President and CEO.  "It's a great program and provided focus and support for Maven to innovate and grow."

"There's one reason we're here, to make driving safer," stated Avi.  "The new creative space in Bloomfield has had an immediate impact on the team, productivity, clients and investors alike," added Mr. Geller. The company closed its fifth fleet customer in June and crossed a milestone of one hundred thousand safe driving miles without a reported crash.

The company solution is built around mobile technology and called the Maven Co-Pilot.  It starts with a wearable headset that contains sensors to measure driver activity such as head motion, mirror checks, and phone calls.  Should a driver's alertness rate drop or a head-bob be detected, the Co-Pilot uses Siri or Google Now to alert the driver.

The headset is paired to a driver's mobile phone, collecting and transmitting data fifty times per second.  Algorithms on the smartphone decode raw data into event data.  The events and other contextual information such as speed, time, miles, and GPS are relayed to the cloud where managers can see real-time driver status or perform further analytics.

"The data insights are incredible.  We can start thinking about predictive safety where we have baselines for various roads and interchanges and can literally speak to a driver like an active coach if their driving behaviors don't fit the pattern collected by thousands of other crossings for a particular road or clover-leaf," explained Avi.  The headset contains over a dozen sensors and leverages additional sources from the phone and cloud to deliver an intelligent solution for both drivers and managers.

Maven's solution is sold to transportation fleets as a service. Driver response has been exceptional with over 80% of drivers volunteering to use the Co-Pilot headset. The Maven Co-Pilot smartphone app presents drivers with their real-time data and personalized performance scoring. Even experienced drivers often are surprised and enlightened by the insights they receive on their driving behaviors.  The instant feedback helps drivers understand their habits and modify any high-risk behaviors.
