Constellation today named 80 new grant recipients through its Community Champions program, donating more than $39,000 to community organizations focused on education, youth development and environmental projects. Constellation’s Community Champions allows the company’s residential electricity and natural gas supply customers to nominate a local project or cause for grant funding. The next deadline for grant submissions is September 15, 2016.
“Constellation is pleased to support our customers’ dedication to giving back to their communities,” said Bruce Stewart, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Constellation. “Since the program’s inception in 2013, Constellation’s Community Champions Program has awarded over $260,000 in funding to more than 520 projects that have made significant educational and environmental impacts in the communities we serve.”
Constellation customer Cecelia Smith will use her $500 Community Champions grant to transform a former metal working classroom into a dance studio for Workshop Houston. Workshop Houston offers creative, technical and education resources through a variety of programs for Houston youth.

Eve Longlade’s $500 Community Champions grant enriched the annual Science Fair at Watchung Elementary School in Montclair New Jersey.
“We used the funds to host an ‘insect experience,’ where children interacted and learned about common and exotic insects including tarantulas, scorpions, and Madagascar hissing cockroaches," said Longlade. “The grant paid for experiences, supplies and ingredients that took our science fair from ordinary to extraordinary!"

Community-based efforts focusing on education, youth and the environment are eligible for funding. Designated 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organizations are eligible for requests up to $500, and other community causes may submit requests up to $250. Grant submissions are accepted three times each year in February, May and September.
