David Weekley Homes Recognizes LP Service for Third Year in a Row with Industry Acclaimed ‘Partners of Choice’ Award

LP Building Products has again been awarded the prestigious “Partners of Choice” Award from David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately held home builder.

This is the third straight year and fourth time overall that LP has been selected for the award based on its service performance.

LP was among 11 outstanding suppliers receiving an “A” designation in either quality or service that David Weekley Homes recognized recently using its industry-leading supplier feedback platform. At the heart of this process is the National Trading Partner Survey, which was implemented in 2004, and serves as the engine behind homebuilder’s renowned supplier feedback platform.

LP achieved an A ranking in service. In the previous two years, the company also rated an A in quality.

“Due to the depth and breadth of our rigorous supplier feedback platform, it is difficult to earn and “A” rating for a quarter, much less a year,” said Bill Justus, vice president of Supply Chain Services for David Weekley Homes, and chief architect behind the process. “Winning an award for 3 straight years is a remarkable accomplishment.”

LP’s field sales and marketing team work closely with David Weekley Homes, supplying more than half of the homebuilder’s markets with a variety of engineered wood products including LP TechShield® Radiant Barrier sheathing, LP TopNotch® Sub-flooring, LP SmartSide® Trim & Siding, and LP SolidStart® Laminated Strand Lumber (LSL).

“We are extremely honored to receive this prestigious award from such a great company and customer,” said Mike Sims, LP senior vice president for Sales and Marketing.

"David Weekley Homes’ evaluation process is a useful tool for us to gauge where we excel and where we need to improve in terms of service and quality," Tim Johnson, LP’s national account manager for new construction, said.

“We share the information with our sales and marketing teams and we all work very hard to provide world class service and quality to an important customer,” Johnson said.

LP achieved the “A,A” ranking in David Weekley Home’s National Trading Partner Survey in 2014 and 2015. The company received an “A” in service in 2011 and again this year.

“As an award winner, LP is in rarified air,” David Weekley Homes’ Justus said.

David Weekley Homes’ evaluation process utilizes the National Trading Partner Survey, which Justus helped developed. It was first implemented in 2004.

The industry-leading process surveys approximately 1,000 of its team members from up and down the organization. It provides a detailed assessment of its suppliers’ quality and service performance, and then through an innovative rating process allows it to compare companies’ performance from diverse industries.

The quarterly results measure access, communication, timeliness, reliability, follow-through, confidence levels and other areas important to the business relationship.

Through a series of strategy meetings, evaluations, one-on-one discussions, formalized feedback instruments, coaching sessions and action plans, the homebuilder challenges itself and its partners to achieve world-class performance, Justus added.

“There are no short cuts to success in our evaluation process,” Justus said. “You cannot talk your way to high scores. It takes a sound, steady leadership, and a commitment to excellence. LP through their actions has demonstrated that they are world class in dealing with our team.”
