Rimonim Art Gallery is pleased to announce the participation of the sculptor Beatriz Gerenstein in the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale (la Biennale di Venezia) in the exhibition “Time Space Existence”. The installation is on view at the Palazzo Mora, 3659 Strada Nuova, 2nd floor, Venice, Italy until November 27, 2016

Beatriz Gerenstein is a visual artist, a sculptor, not an architect. She was invited to participate in this prestigious Architecture Biennale to show two artistic chairs with a unique and innovative design. In fact, she is one of the very few artists selected to participate in the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale.

Gerenstein’s installation, titled “Couple, Two Chairs, One Sculpture”, comprises two wooden chairs that resemble delicate and elegant human figures, one is a “She” and the other a “He”. The chairs are subtle anthropomorphic and “She” even has beautiful skirt.

Gerenstein’s chair-sculptures are motivated by the concept of “art-based design” that combines the functional with the aesthetic. Still, the aim of the chairs design is make connection among people.  In Gerenstein narrative and purpose, the chairs are interactive, the “couple” is in love! Gerenstein took care of any detail in the design to emphasize her aesthetic message. She avoided any sharp edge in the composition and designed the chairs with a contour in their top to insinuate that the chairs are leaning one towards the other like in a loving hug. These chairs were produced by Gerenstein in Italy with the latest, state-of-the-art 3D design, printing, milling and a combination of exotic woods.  The artist explores the use of sinuous curves and natural forms to establish spatial constructs and interactions that move beyond a humanly-defined shape into that of furniture design. A chair as a “work of art” provides a creative version of the functional that is suited for use and installation that move beyond its intended purpose as an object into the realm of architectural and artistic design.

Beatriz Gerenstein was born in Argentina and lives and works in Miami, USA. Her sculptures are quickly gaining significant attraction of the public. Being unknown 10 years ago, she just participated in the exhibition Personal Structures in the context of the 56th Venice Biennale, the 12th Havana Biennial, had a solo exhibition at the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas in Havana, Cuba and now in the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale.
