Smiths Detection Inc. Announces Support for Five New ThanksUSA’s “Pathway to Tech/STEM” Scholarships

Smiths Detection Inc. (SDI) announced it will support five new scholarships through ThanksUSA’s “Pathway to Tech/STEM” program, which will provide educational opportunities to military spouses and children seeking hard-to-fill science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) degrees and careers. The Pathway to Tech/STEM program was co-founded by SDI, a US subsidiary of Smiths Detection.

SDI is a longtime supporter of ThanksUSA, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing college, technical and vocational school, need-based scholarships for the children and spouses of U.S. military personnel. Since 2006, ThanksUSA has awarded nearly 4,000 such scholarships with a total value of $12 million.

Dan Gelston, President of SDI and an Army veteran, said, “By supporting ThanksUSA and its scholarship programs, we show those who serve our country in uniform that we appreciate their sacrifices. We help enable their success by supporting their spouses, sons and daughters who will use the education opportunities created by ThanksUSA to serve their communities and our country in a variety of ways.”

Smiths Detection’s commitment both to the warfighter and to quality science and technical education is at the core of the company’s mission to be the world-leading provider of advanced technologies that identify constantly evolving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) threats.
