District 15 Toastmasters to Host Speech Contest

Fort Hall, ID – October 13, 2016 – Ten speech contest winners from around the district will compete for gold in the humorous and table topics contest on October 22nd. The district level of competition is the culmination of a 3-month process of single elimination competition that proceeded through club, area, and division competitions. Contestants for the Humorous Speech Contest are required to deliver five- to seven-minute speeches; Table Topic contestants deliver one- to two-minute speeches with no advance knowledge of the topic until the moment they are introduced by the contest chair. All contestants are judged on various criteria including speech development, originality, effectiveness, speech value, speaker’s delivery, and grammar.

“Toastmasters speech contests are a fun and challenging way to build your confidence and improve as a speaker because you speak to different audiences. Because it is judged, you constantly try to improve your skills and grow as a speaker,” says Robert Graves, Club Growth Director, District 15.

This special event provides the audience with the opportunity to connect with contestants and each other. Admission to the speech contest is $10/person; and $25 for three or more family members. The cost of a whole day of events including the Keynote Speaker Margaret Page, Speech Contests, Educational Presentations, Lunch and Dinner is $75.
