LAS VEGAS, NV, October 26, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Ronald W. Maestas, Visiting Professor of Management Information Systems, New Mexico Highlands University, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in his field through Industry Experts Magazine. Dr. Ronald W. Maestas will soon be featured in an upcoming edition of Industry Experts Magazine in 2016/2017.

Dr. Ronald W. Maestas began a very rewarding career in education by first working at Taos High School in 1967. Within just three years he was selected as a Ford Foundation Fellow and was afforded the opportunity to travel the US for a full year, visiting places like Washington, DC, Phoenix, Arizona, Oakland, California, and Denver Colorado. Shortly thereafter, he landed his first role teaching in higher education for New Mexico Highlands University, for which he remained full-time until 2014.

"Teaching at the collegiate level has been an absolute wonderful experience," Maestas said, noting that much of the population included the Hispanic population. "Teaching business administration was particularly rewarding because it taught my students, most of whom were very motivated to succeed, how to enhance their employment opportunities after graduation."

Having taught at New Mexico Highlands University for 45 years, Maestas taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses. A firm believer in education, he notes just how important a quality education is in today's world. Instilling values in his students, as well as a strong sense of work ethic, was very important to him.

"Speaking from experience, we, as minorities, must aim high to be successful in society," he added. "That is why I pushed my students to excel."

Earning his BA in Business/Spanish in 1968 and his MA in Business in 1970 at Adams State College, Maestas then pursued his Doctor of Education at Arizona State University, graduating in 1979. His Post-doctoral studies included the University of Minnesota and Indiana University. Today, Maestas is enjoying the many joys of serving as a Visiting Professor of Management Information Systems back at New Mexico Highlands University. He is also a prominent silver/goldsmith who enjoys using native turquoise stones and specializes in bolo ties.

Dr. Maestas has been a high school, collegiate baseball, softball, and wrestling official for 47 years; he has been selected 16 times to work for the state finals. He currently serves as an Official for high school basketball games.

During Maestas' formal years at the University, he served as Assistant to the Vice-President of Information Services, Dean of the School of Business, Department Head of Business, and on various committee assignments, including various athletics, advisory, and others. He has authored dozens of publications in academic journals, textbooks, professional program presentations, and referred proceedings. He's also earned more than 20 awards for his service to his community and in career, including being inducted to the California Hispanic Sports and Athletic Foundation's Hall of Fame in 2015, earning a Lifetime Award in recognition of devoted dedication and contributions to the Fray Angelico C. Chavez Chapter of the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America in 2013, the New Mexico Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2013, and was also inducted to New Mexico Highlands University's Hall of Honor in 2002. Additionally, Maestas was nominated to the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame, Rocky Mountain Athletic Hall of Fame, and the National Association of Intercollegiate Hall of Fame, and was selected as a Historian Member by Los Califorianos, an organization aimed at the preservation of the Juan Bautista de Anza Expeditions to New Mexico, Arizona, and California. The Presidio in San Francisco, California is named after De Anza.

Maestas was recently appointed as the Translation Reviewer for their quarterly newsletter, 'Noticias para los Cali-fornianos'. He is working on the Index for 'Nuestras Raices', Journal of the Genealogical Society of Hispanic America, has written and self-published more than 100 manuscripts on prominent families in the southwest, and his genealogical research included a database with over 120,000 names. He was also awarded with a Primeras Famili-as certificate by the New Mexico Genealogical Society and this year the Colorado Genealogy Society awarded him the First Families certificate.
