Telemedicine Platform from REACH Health Enables Enterprise Approach; Multiple Service Lines
ATLANTA & JACKSON, Miss. - Dec. 20, 2016 - PRLog -- Building on its highly successful telestroke program, St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Miss. is expanding its telemedicine initiatives to provide behavioral health services to its partner hospitals. St. Dominic's behavioral health and telestroke services will both use the REACH Health telemedicine software platform.

St. Dominic Hospital began its telemedicine program in 2012 with a focus on emergency stroke treatment in rural hospitals. The telestroke program has grown to include six partner hospitals, with one more scheduled to be live on the network in January 2017. Since launching the telestroke program, St. Dominic has been certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission and recognized for its skillful stroke treatment and community education efforts.

"When we launched our telemedicine program four years ago, we had an enterprise approach in mind," said Cris Bourn, Neuroscience Service Line Administrator for St. Dominic Hospital. "We anticipated expanding into additional medical specialties, each with unique workflow, data and reporting requirements. With these needs in mind, we selected the telemedicine platform from REACH Health because of its modular design and ability to support the requisites of each service line."

Inpatient psychiatric care services are provided by St. Dominic today, and oftentimes they require in-person assessment consultations with St. Dominic's master's-level counselors. Partner hospitals are very pleased with the quality of the services but would also like to reduce response times by eliminating travel delays to these community hospitals. The new behavioral health telemedicine program will provide remote behavioral health assessments for St. Dominic's partner hospitals, creating advantages for patients and care providers alike.

"Our behavioral health services cover about eighty percent of the state, specializing in acute care for suicidal, homicidal and psychotic patients," said Kim Mathis, Director of the Behavioral Health Center for St. Dominic Hospital. "Even though the program is very successful, we see opportunities for improvement through the use of telemedicine. The objective of the program is 'Better Care, Faster' and with telemedicine, we'll eliminate access delays due to travel and free up valuable time for our counselors. All of us, including our senior executives, are very excited about the expansion of our telemedicine program."

"We are honored to support continuing evolution of the telemedicine program at St. Dominic," said Steve McGraw, president and CEO of REACH Health. "Their enterprise vision for telemedicine – starting with one service line and building on their success with additional service lines – is ideally suited to our software. Our software provides the capabilities needed to manage comprehensive telemedicine programs, tailor clinical workflows for each service line and care setting, and monitor clinical and performance metrics. We look forward to seeing the continued achievements at St. Dominic and of our other customers."
