Right C3 is proud to announce that Rachael Grigsby is our winner for the Essay Scholarship Contest! She was awarded $1,500 to help with college expenses as she attends Portland Community College this fall, where she plans to study to become an EMT.
The entire coaching team voted on the final winner, and Rachael’s essay about how she held a Diversity Summit at her high school proved to be both well-written and inspirational. “I ended up with an afterschool event that offered a free potluck dinner from over 11 different cultures as well as arts and crafts, a photo booth and a talent show for over 100 people that came to the event in my school’s library. I also had humanitarian projects that supported child literacy, orphanages in the Philippines, and Cystic Fibrosis.”
Helping others is a part of who Rachael is, so it is no surprise that she aspires to be in the medical field. She told us, “At first I wanted to become a heart surgeon, but I did not want to go to school for 16 years.” Once she gets certified as an EMT, she plans to become a firefighter to further serve her community.
About her time in the program, Rachael said, “The meeting was really awesome. I learned a lot of things that my dad and I didn’t know.” She appreciated the Right C3 services and is excited about moving forward with her plans.
