Reliant Gives Returns for 2017: Texas Charity to Receive $100,000 Donation and You Pick The Recipients!

Reliant’s crowdsourced charitable giving program, Reliant Gives, returns after a successful debut in 2016. The Reliant Gives program provides the public a unique opportunity to help give back to their communities by selecting Texas nonprofits that are most important to them.

“We’re inspired by the passion of our employees and everyone who voted, volunteered or supported Reliant Gives last year, and are thrilled to continue the program in 2017,” said Elizabeth Killinger, president, Reliant and NRG Retail. “The great thing about the program is anyone, anywhere can vote and know they are making a difference with just one click.”

For the first round of Reliant Gives in 2017, Reliant employees have selected three nonprofits as finalists, and each organization has a chance to receive a $100,000 donation. It’s now the public’s turn to get involved and vote to decide which organization receives the top prize.

This round’s three finalists are:

  • A 2nd Cup in Houston is a nonprofit that serves coffee with a cause – to raise awareness of human trafficking and develop resources to create a second chance for survivors.
  • Girlstart, a nonprofit with programs across Texas, increases girls’ interest and engagement in STEM through innovative, nationally-recognized informal education programs and camps.
  • Southwest Transplant Alliance in Dallas serves as the bridge between those who make the decision to donate their organs and those needing a life-saving transplant.

“Our employees chose these three nonprofits because of the good work that drives their mission and the positive impact they are having on local communities,” said Killinger.

Online voting opens May 10 at 9 a.m. CDT and runs through May 19 at 11:59 p.m. CDT, with the results announced the week of May 22. The public can vote an unlimited number of times for one of the three nonprofits by visiting reliant.com/vote. The nonprofit with the most votes at the end of the voting period will receive a $100,000 donation, and the other two nonprofits will receive $10,000 and $5,000, respectively, based on the number of votes they receive.

In 2016 through the Reliant Gives program, nine deserving nonprofits received $345,000, positively impacting nearly 120,000 lives across Texas.
