Attorney Rob Schenk Selected as Georgia Rising Star Third Year in a Row

ATLANTA, GA, May 24, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Attorney Rob Schenk, of Atlanta, GA., firm Schenk Smith, was recently selected to the 2017 Georgia Rising Stars list by the prestigious research team at Super Lawyers. Each year, no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in the state receive this honor. Schenk received the Rising Star honor for the last three years in a row.

This personal injury attorney is passionate about nursing home abuse cases. "When you see your own father, you see your own mother in your clients, it makes you fight for them even more,'' he said.

Schenk and firm partner, Will Smith, post a weekly video podcast aimed at educating families of loved ones who have been injured in a long-term care facility.

Schenk, a graduate of Georgia State University College of Law in Atlanta, worked as an associate attorney in an international law firm based in Paris, France. He opened his personal injury firm in 2011.

"I wanted to do injury work -- it is a way that you can promote change from a larger standpoint. A big verdict can change a large company to change its way, that way bad things won't happen to other people in the future," Schenk said.

In 2013 he partnered with Smith, a certified nursing assistant in a nursing home for 10 years before becoming a lawyer. "We both wanted nursing law to be our focus."

Nursing home residents are some of our most vulnerable populations, with 1.4 million residents, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Often, once-healthy and competent people are at the mercy of low-skilled care. Generally injury is a result of substandard care and neglect, not deliberate intent.

Schenk urges relatives and friends to get more involved in loved ones' nursing home experience. "Get to know the names of nurses. Make your presence known. The more you are there, the less likely they are going to be neglected."
