“We will be hosting our Inaugural Gala Awards Event come June for the assistance and support of formerly incarcerated women. We believe in redemption and we are dedicated to help these unfortunate women leave behind their blemished past and look forward to a new positive and productive life. Our upcoming fundraiser event is committed to raise awareness about helping these women to reenter society so that they can start their life all over again. Our reentry initiatives have already helped a lot of women to bounce back and our event will also acknowledge these brave women who are becoming better and stronger through their struggles with each passing day”, stated Candance J. Wesson,  the founder and executive director of The Help.

The keynote speaker for the event will be famous CNN Political Correspondent Mr. Roland Martin and featured speaker will be Congressman Emaunel Cleaver II (Missouri’s Fifth Congressional District).

Speaking further, Candance said it’s going to be a fun-filled affair amidst live band performance, socializing, sumptuous dinner and more. Famous Grammy Award Nominee Bishop Cortez Vaughn will be on stage to entertain the guests while popular author and activist Christine McDonald will also grace the occasion with her inspiring presence.

“It’s going to be an evening to remember amidst inspiring talks, fundraising, gala entertainment, great dinner and much more.”

The Help(KC) is the first non-profit organization in Kansas City to work with formerly incarcerated women. Launched in 2016, the organization also aims to support women who carry felony conviction(s).

The organization extends reentry initiatives to these women to minimize recidivism through 3 core strategies –

  • Employment and Employment Readiness
  • Health and Wellness development
  • Women Empowerment

Within a span of just one and half years, The Help has assisted more than 100 individuals with blemished past to reenter the mainstream life.

“We are aimed to ensure productive transition of convicted and formerly incarcerated women from prison to their communities. We support these women to leave behind the painful stigma of being an ex-offender and to build themselves up for functional contributions to their home and the society. Most importantly, we inspire self-sustainability. We take a holistic approach to uplift and empower these women physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and certainly financially.”
