Beverly Hills, Apr 4, 2018 (Issuewire.com) - Actor Gary Anthony Sturgis brings another amazing performance to the small screen in 5th Ward, a new original series on Urban Movie Channel (UMC).
Sturgis plays the role of Blue, a man in deep emotional conflict & a son of a preacher who shies away from his spiritual calling to run a series of strip clubs. Already in a relationship, he falls in love with Mina, played by R&B singer Mya; putting him in the middle of a love triangle.
When Director, Greg Carter approached me about the role, I immediately accepted. I saw a character with depth that was more than the typical bad guy I am known for playing, so I was extremely excited about the emotional range of my character, said the raspy voice thespian.
Sturgis, who is best known for his villainous roles in Tyler Perrys Diary of A Mad Black Woman and Daddys Little Girls, was beaming with excitement about his role this series.
5th Ward takes an unapologetic look at gentrification in urban communities and the daily struggles of those living in the inner city. Set in Houstons historic 5th Ward, Greg Carters dramatic series tackles everything from urban decay to politics and how these issues affect the community.
There are so many story lines, but we have something for everyone. I think people will be pleasantly surprised, said Sturgis.
The series also stars Singer/Actress, Mya Harrison, Actors, Carl Anthony Payne, Thomas Miles, Hawthorne James, Chris Jefferson, Chris ONeal and Lew Temple.
No stranger to the screen, Sturgis delivers a masterful performance as Blue. Blue is 100% Alpha male with a no nonsense tough exterior but when he sees a woman he has always had feelings for, his character shows a softer more caring side, the star said. Normally seen on the silver screen, 5th Ward is the first television series in which Sturgis has been cast in a leading
role.
The series premiered March 2nd and will run a new episode every Friday until April 6th.
