As a part of promoting the malaria eradication program, Mr. Madhukar met Dr. Umesh Phansu, Joint Director-cum-state Programme Officer at the office of DHS in Saikia Commercial Complex, Assam Christian Basti at Guwahati. Dr. Umesh is the state representative for the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme of the Directorate General of Health Services of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of Government of India. Dr. Madhukar talked about the Malaria Eradication Program of NeoDocto that is aimed at preventing deaths caused by Malaria by completely eradicating this deadly disease.
The state of Assam along with the Northeast contributes to nearly 10-12% of the total Malaria cases in India. As per the National Framework for Malaria Elimination in India, the state is in the category 2 position with an Annual Parasite Incidence or API of less than a case per 1000 people at risk. Nevertheless, Assam is not out of risk. The reason is that some districts in the state are still considered high endemic districts with an Annual Parasite Incidence of greater than 1.
At the meeting between the CEO of NeoDocto and the Joint Director-cum-state Programme Officer, the former explained about the Malaria Eradication program, which is one of the important core functions of NeoDocto. He explained about the different methods that they will follow to eradicate malaria from the state to help people lead a healthy life.
