L&T Transport Training Services have announced that they can offer Driver CPC training services for LGV and PCV drivers at their premises in Pontefract, West Yorkshire. As standard, LGV and PCV drivers must complete a minimum of 35 hours of periodic training in order to stay qualified, and this must be done every 5 years. The training is ideal for anyone that drives in these classes such as lorry and bus drivers, and needs to stay qualified, or anyone that is interested in getting into the field.

Formed and based in Fitzwilliam, near Pontefract, West Yorkshire in 1986, L&T Transport Training Services is a friendly, family-owned and operated business. It provides instruction for anyone wishing to drive a vehicle from C1 (7.5T) to CE (artic) and D1 (Minibus), to D (Coach), plus car & trailer and lorry mounted crane (HIAB) training for anyone wishing to drive or operate a commercial or passenger vehicle. Training is available for both individuals and company employees.

Visitors to the site will find that the driver CPC was introduced for bus drivers in 2008 and lorry drivers in 2009, meaning the CPC has been around for 10 years. With this introduction, drivers must complete periodic training every 5 years in order to stay qualified. Since the 2014 deadline, it has now almost been 5 years, and drivers should aim to stay ahead of the CPC.

L&T Transport Training Services is a Yorkshire-based company that is dedicated to lorry and bus driver training. They offer all classes of LGV and PCV driver training, including the CPC training needed to stay qualified.

There are two different types of CPC training that are offered by L&T Transport Training Services, the Initial CPC and the Periodic CPC. The difference between the two is that the initial CPC is for drivers who passed their driving test after the 1st January 1997, and the Periodic CPC is for drivers who passed their test before the 1st January 1997, already hold a DQC, or passed a lorry test before 10th September 2009, or 10th September 2008 for bus drivers.

The two CPC training services differ slightly, the Initial CPC is split into two stages, a theory based test, and a practical demonstration test. L&T Transport Training Services has a database of various study resources such as the computer suite based in the training centre, and the starter package includes the cost of the test and the books or online resources needed.

The periodic CPC is 35 hours of periodic training which needs to be completed before the DQC is issued. Most of the training is classroom based and is usually split into sessions of 7 hours a day, at a cost of £70 a day on weekdays and £80 a day on weekends. Once the training is completed, a DQC (Driver Qualification Card) is issued.
