INCubatoredu Entrepreneurship Program praises mentors during National Volunteer Month

Barrington, Apr 26, 2018 (Issuewire.com) - INCubatoredu Praises Mentors during National Volunteer Month : The INCubatoredu program at Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville, Illinois wishes to recognize Andy Burns, Founder of Emmetts Brewing Co, and Nancy Guthrie, original Founder of Business Matters which she sold in 2016, for their involvement as outstanding role models and mentors. INCubatoredu offers students an authentic entrepreneurship experience by allowing them to create and develop their own product or service and compete for funding at the end of the school year. A critical component is the practical input from entrepreneurs in the community who volunteer their time and talents.

Guthrie has shared her skills as an entrepreneur and CPA over the past three years as a subject matter expert, a mentor guiding student teams and a champion for the program in the community.

In addition, Guthrie, made an impact on the lives of the female students in the class. I was the only female on my team but having Nancy as a role model inspired me to make the most of this great opportunity, Julia Drozdz said, former Dundee-Crown INCubatoredu student. Im now studying finance like Nancy and want to mentor young women so they know that if I can do it, they can do it.

Burns has mentored students in the INCubatoredu program for over three years and has been influential with the student teams.

In Andys capacity as a mentor, he has done a phenomenal job of encouraging students to focus on identifying their business concept challenges, Nick Pahl said, INCubatoredu program teacher. Once they identify challenges, Andy finds contacts in the community that help solve the issues. This establishes a positive network of allies in the community which is key to the success of our program.

Guthrie and Burns feel their time in the classroom is extremely rewarding because the INCubatoredu class is unique.

Unlike a traditional business class, INCubatoredu provides a forum for combining concepts from various business specialties and interpersonal skills. Within the first month, the students are permanently transformed, Guthrie said.

Even if the students dont run a business in the future, they will be better employees and team members because of the skills that the INCubatoredu experience builds, Burns said.
