Number of homes destroyed by Kilauea eruption reaches 700, Hawaii County officials say

The eruption began on May 3 in the Leilani Estates subdivision, where Fissure 8 is still active, pumping a river of lava to the ocean that destroyed hundreds of homes a month later in the Vacationland and Kapoho Beach Lots subdivisions.
