SYC moving Shanghai towards the world and towards the future with Shanghai Cup competition

By: Get News

Shanghai, China, July 16, 2018: The city of Shanghai is historically a port city with water within its DNA.  The city itself was an international hub where the East meets West back when the Bund was in its heyday.  The Huangpu River is an iconic symbol of this city where back in 1873 there was a historical sailing competition in the North Bund that took place on November 15, 1873.   Break to today, the city of Shanghai continues to grow with international recognition.

With the support of relevant leaders from Shanghai Sports Bureau, Hongkou District People’s Government, Shanghai Sports Federation, Hongkou District Sports Bureau, China Yachting and Windsurfing Association Executive Committee, SYC would like to bring this city embedded with a water tradition to the modern age.  SYC’s goal is to create a community and society that will embrace the concept of “Extraordinary on water”. Since its founding, SYC has been fostering and spearheading activities on water for Shanghai and water appreciating community at large.  Its new slogan of “The Extraordinary on Water” encapsulates not only sports and performance on water but includes every other aspect of what an extraordinary on water concept captivates.  The organization will be pursuing sustainability and lifestyle to this concept.  In a society that is ever growing SYC would like to culturally and historically respect the past and bring this to the present and future.

In the year 2018, SYC will be hosting many activities that will hope to bring to everyone its brand DNA of heritage, sport, performance, sustainability, lifestyle and future growth.  SYC has initiated collaboration with InsitutoMarangoni.  The institute ties fashion, design, and art in mutual and complex influences.  Throughout the institute’s history, adapting to the evolving society while remaining firm on the institute’s founding values that echoes SYC’s ethos and vision.

SYC is also proud to announce the launch of 2018 Nacra17 Shanghai Cup Competition and Nacra17 Asian Championships in coming September. The immense response received by the esteemed competition last year after a huge lull of 145 years has set the sailing competition on a roll and 2018 will mark the proud second anniversary of the second innings of the championship. The Nacra 17 speed sailing boat used in the competition became the competition level of the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, representing the development trend of modern sailing boats, and the newly added hydrofoil Nacra 17 sailing boat will appear in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The high level of sportsmanship and excellent viewing of the Innocara sailboats are irresistible to the people who love water sports and the general audience. This year’s Shanghai Cup will feature professional teams from more than a dozen countries and regions, including China and Hong Kong, to showcase the world’s top competition level. It is one of the rare high-level Olympic sailing events in China.

This year’s event will combine the concept of sports and green ecological environment to showcase the charm of these events and promote people’s sustainable development of life, water ecology and urban life. Through the Shanghai Cup competition, sports, art and fashion content will be integrated; combining sports into life, bring fashion closer to the sea, and to convey the attitude and concept of “sustainable development, fashion and sports” to the society. Through science and technology, history and culture are modernized, bringing a variety of wonderful waterfront lifestyles to the citizens and enhancing the pride and honor of Shanghai residents, deepening the public’s understanding of the city’s maritime culture, and create a sunny, healthy, green and hydrophilic quality life of Shanghai residents.

A wealth of buildings with exotic architecture style line the bank of Huangpu River, which make the Bund “the Exhibition of World Architecture”. And across the river lie numerous soaring skyscrapers. They form a perfect combination of modernity and history, which offers the audience a fresh and unprecedented experience. However, on the other hand, buildings alongside the river hugely influence on the wind condition, making it more changeable. Thus, strategy and skill are of great significance, and the choice of route is crucial.

One of the best parts of the championship is that it no longer restricts sailing to an event meant only for the elite but opens up the world of water sports for all with a focus on sustainability, health, lifestyle and future.

SYC’s extraordinary on water movement wants to give back the pride and the excitement of water to the city and the people of Shanghai.  With this, SYC hopes to bring aspects of happiness to the community by exploring the potential new opportunities with water in a sustainable environment, from lifestyle to sports to future growth of everyone.
