Long-awaited Gateway project breaks ground as CATS begins seeking developer for station (PHOTOS)

Local and state dignitaries hammered spikes into a wooden beam as a symbolic groundbreaking of Gateway Station's first phase. A project that's been planned and discussed for decades, Gateway Station is aimed to become a multimodal transportation hub for uptown Charlotte. The end goal is to move Charlotte's Amtrak facility back into uptown and incorporate other modes of transportation like buses, the streetcar and, potentially, commuter rail at the station.
