The Video Game Website, MiniGames.com Announces Their Annual Video Game Design Scholarship Program

By: Get News
The video game website, minigames.com announces their annual video game design scholarship program for students in the United States and Europe. The scholarship program is designed to help graduating high school students to advance their tertiary education in game development.

Cypress  Minigames.com is an online website launched in August 2000 for individuals all over the world to play free online games from thousands of different game developers. The website offers the best place on the internet to play the high-quality games from independent developers across the globe. Visitors can play more than 30,000 free online flashes, html5, unity3D, WebGL mini-games, and new games launched every single day on the website.

Minigames.com understands that in order to have more games available for their website users, they need more developers. But developing a game is not a thing that the average individual can do; it requires a lot of education, learning to code, learning math required in game development, game app development, and learning to be a great game designer.  Acquiring the education to create games entails a lot of costs.

To help game developers to offset the costs of education incurred to design the best games, the management of Minigames.com has set up an annual scholarship program to select and award one of their game developers each year.

Applications for the Video Game Design Scholarship are free. However, the following are the necessary things that make applicants eligible to apply:

  • Applicants must be graduating high school seniors and students who have been accepted for enrollment at an accredited college or university in the United States or Europe.

  • Currently, enrolled students at an accredited college or university in the United States or Europe may also apply

  • Applicants must be pursuing a degree in Game Design and Development, a similar degree in Computer Science, or Software Development.

  • Applicants must not currently work for or be employed by a game design or game development company.

The following entails the criteria for the application required to apply for the scholarship program.

  • Applicants must develop a unique game (“mini-game”), on any topic, and mention MiniGames.com in the credits.

  • Applicants are required to go to minigames.com with the location/URL of the game, so it can be downloaded and placed on the MiniGames.com website.

  • Applicants must fill out the official scholarship entry form.

  • Write a description of the game, and explain why the game should be the winner of the scholarship, with a brief description of the game developer in an essay of at least 350 words.

  • Include the developer’s video of him/herself and the game (Bonus).

Once applications have been submitted, MiniGames.com and its Board of Directors will select one game and then notify the winner of the scholarship by August 31st of each year. The awards are based on the factors listed in the application process.

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is September 1st of each year. The scholarship program will run each year and at least one winner will be awarded within 60 days of the deadline date.

The award for the Minigames Design Scholarship is $500 US, paid directly to the winner’s college or university, which will be applied to the winner’s account. The number of awards lies at the prerogative of the minigames.com team.
