QCCA's National Clinically Integrated Oncology Network Holds Its First Annual Summit

The Quality Cancer Care Alliance (QCCA) on Aug. 9 will hold its first bi-annual summit under its new organizational structure as the first clinically integrated network (CIN) in oncology in the United States.

Comprised of 19 independently owned and operated practices located across the United States, QCCA was founded in 2015 to improve the quality of oncology care by marshaling the most effective therapies, diagnostics, processes and research in service of its patients. The organization’s board voted unanimously last February to become a CIN on a national level.

“Building upon our collective efforts at QCCA in reforming the delivery of cancer care in this country, our first bi-annual summit as a formal CIN puts the need for innovation in compensation models and clinical delivery of care front and center,” said Sibel Blau, MD, President of QCCA CIN.

The August summit is focused on furthering QCCA’s work by examining through national thought leaders clinical topics such as innovation in genetic testing; the role of artificial intelligence in medical oncology care; biosimilars and breakthroughs in cancer treatments; and business topics such as providing excellence in the patient experience, defining and measuring the value in value-based care, and how to innovate delivery within that value-based contracting space.

“As we build out our data-sharing capabilities further, we are developing a clear understanding of how such data can best be deployed for designing and delivering better care,” said Suprith Banadarith, MD, of Cancer Specialists of North Florida, and QCCA CIN board member. “It is clear that the opportunities for developing highly collaborative relationships across providers, patients and purchasers of healthcare services are plentiful. To that end, we are utilizing our in-person time at the summit to hold working sessions that clearly map out how we will be moving forward under our CIN structure through the rest of 2018 and years to come,” remarked Ray Page, DO Ph.D., The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, Fort Worth, and  QCCA CIN board member.

Dr. Blau said the organization’s goals under the new CIN are nothing short of “being a driver” in shaping what comes next in oncology care delivery through technology, research, payment and clinical frameworks at a national level. She added: “QCCA couldn’t be better placed from the perspectives of national reach, competency of business acumen, research experience, and clinical expertise, all of which have culminated in immense collective talent within the organization.”
