So much so that his excellence in angling has won him the prestigious weekly Kabetogama/Ash River Fishing Contest in Lake Kabetogama, MN. Sponsored by the Gateway General Store, the competition took place on June 29, 2018.
Mr. Remiyas’ winning trophy at the contest was a Northern Pike which was 29.25 inches long and weighed little less than 7 pounds. The expert angler used a multi-colored jig with a live shiner minnow and slip bopper to catch the fish off the pier at Grandview Resort. The fish was caught on a super-light Ugly Stick which was risky for such big a Pike but being a seasoned angler, Bill was smart enough to bank on a 10 pound test Fire Line.
“I had my fishing pole in a rod holder, and all of a sudden I heard the drag spinning off the reel. I thought “Wow, this is a big fish and it’s running!” said the champion while talking about winning the esteemed Kabetogama/Ash River Fishing Contest at the end of June.
The fishing contest was a part of Bill’s annual summer vacation this year. Bill has been a caregiver for his family since the 1980s and currently is helping his 79 year old mother stay safely at home. Caregiving is an overwhelming and exhaustive job and it’s only healthy for a caregiver to take occasional breaks. They are always so busy caring for others and when it comes to taking a break, they seem to appreciate vacations more than other occupations.
Mr. Remiyas’ follows the same ethos and takes a small break each summer for a quiet getaway away from the masses to refresh himself before getting back to his packed life. A passionate traveler, he strongly advocates occasional holidaying as one of the best medicines to de-stress in today’s busy life.
“We should all travel at least once a year and it’s like an annual ritual for me. We live in stressful times these days which call for occasional breaks so that we can unwind and come back with a refreshed mind. Traveling does that for us and it’s one of the best ways to forget your daily pressure and worries and soak yourself into seamless fun for a while.”
