Jobless claims fall slightly to 203,000 and stick to 49-year low

The rate of layoffs in the U.S. fell slightly in early September and clung to a 49-year low, underscoring the strength of a ebullient economy and the best labor market at least since the turn of the century. Initial jobless claims slipped by 1,000 to 204,000.
