Hollywood, Sep 17, 2018 (Issuewire.com) - The prestigious Los Angeles Lift-Off Film Festival is one of the top places new filmmakers hope to be seen as they launch their careers in Hollywood. Weiyang Li, an up-and-coming editor, and director who is considered one of the hottest new faces on the independent filmmakers' scene will be showcasing his new short film XYXY at this popular film festival event.
Li came from China to work in Los Angeles film industry and soon began receiving acclaim for his work in editing and directing. Hes been nominated for awards for several films since his arrival, and now is sought out by Hollywoods best for his special directing and editing skills.
Weiyang Lis newest short film XYXY profiles the life of a same-sex couple who is learning from their own mutant son, born with real wings, about standing up proudly as an individual. The boy leads a normal life even though he is the son of two dads, but then two enormous wings begin sprouting from his back. The panicked fathers want to hide their child from the public because they are afraid he will be tormented and judged by bullies. But the courageous boy wants people to accept him for who he really is. XYXY relates a memorable message about the importance of accepting ourselves exactly as we are, in a short film that lasts only 15 minutes.
XYXY tells an extraordinarily deep story in 15 short minutes, said Li. I enjoyed working on this film and hope to get people to think about the Sci-Fi genre in a new way. It is a rich canvas on which to illustrate important, socially relevant filmmaking.
XYXY recently won the Flamingo Best Fiction Film Award and was also screened in Cortland, N.Y., at the Blackbird Film Festival. In addition to becoming part of the Los Angeles Lift-Off Festival, the movie will launch on Vimeo Demand starting September 17th, right after its screening in Moorhead, MN for FM LGBT Film Festival.

Li, is excited about the opportunity to stay in the U.S. and is seeking a government grant called an O-1 (Outstanding Artist) Visa so he can continue his work alongside the best in Hollywood.
